JEAN PAUL GAULTIER Haute Couture fall-winter 2021-2022
Haute Couture show: Sacaï x Jean Paul Gaultier upcycling
It had been almost a year.
A year that the greatest fashion enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting this Sacaï collection in collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier.
So when the lights go out and the music starts playing right inside the great creator’s headquarters, the audience holds their breath.
The first look sets the tone. The DNA of Jean Paul Gaultier is well and truly present.
We see the label’s emblematic bra, which ends in an extravagant point. Perfectly tempered by a satin bustier, it reveals a dress with masculine striped codes.
This is just the beginning. The models parade in ever more extravagant looks. Their colorful platform boots designed by Chitose Abe, artistic director, elevate the bodies and their looks. Each model embodies on its own, a fighting woman in the image of a true warrior.
Why ? Quite simply because fashion pollutes.
These tops, in their voluntary approach, seem to make us admit that it is possible to make a multitude of recycled clothes, unique pieces. Some dresses are assemblies of several Levi’s jeans and some jackets are mixtures of shirts.
The genres fit together perfectly as we find the rock’n’roll spirit of Jean Paul Gaultier and the more casual clothes of Sacaï such as the various bombers and sneakers in collaboration with Nike.
It’s impossible to ignore the iconic blue and white sailor top by Gaultier, which contrasts wonderfully with the multicolored kilt skirts by Sacaï.
The finish is grandiose. The models gather in several circles, dressed in their faux fur coats and oversized chapkas. According to Sacaï and Jean Paul Gaultier, the future of fashion is meant to be recycled.
