Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Are Two of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s influence is infinite, according to TIME.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear together on a cover for the first time as part of the magazine’s annual TIME100 list, which rounds up the world’s most powerful people who are working to change the world for the better.
Fellow cover stars include Simone Biles, Billie Eilish, and Kate Winslet.
For their cover, Meghan appears in a chic monochromatic ensemble that includes a cream-hued blouse and matching high-waist trousers, while Harry goes all black with his shirt and slacks.
According to the outlet, the pair were selected for the list due to their dedication to activism and mental health advocacy, as well as Meghan’s lifelong commitment to advancing the lives of women and girls worldwide. The pair also wrote a profile in the new issue for fellow nominee Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian-American economist fighting for global vaccine equity.
Though there is no accompanying profile for the couple’s cover shoot, their friend and the founder of World Central Kitchen, chef José Andrés, did write a touching message in honor of the couple.
“They turn compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation.
They give voice to the voiceless through media production. Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need—offering mental-health support to Black women and girls in the U.S., and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean,” Andrés wrote.
“In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the duke and duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.”
TIME’s cover appears to symbolize a new start for the Sussexes, who reportedly are preparing for an “era of visibility” once the COVID-19 pandemic allows.
“They’re a couple who do very well in those moments of human interaction. They need to be on the ground,”They say that the proof is in the pudding, and what we are about to see is that pudding.”
