“Waqf Al-dekka” ..New Concept of Civil Work

“Waqfeyat Misr Foundation”: Strategic plan and sustainable solutions to societal problems

Dr. Marwa Al-Dali: Providing seats in the streets for the elderly and community groups in crowded service places

Cairo, August 3, 2023 – “Waqfeyat Misr Foundation” is implementing a strategic plan aimed at providing sustainable solutions to societal problems faced by the residents of the Republic, particularly in Cairo Governorate, for their long-term benefit.

In this context, Dr. Marwa El Daly, founder and chairperson of the Board of Trustees of “Waqfeyat Misr,” stated that they are working to implement a new concept of civil work. This initiative began with the expansion of “Waqf Al-Dekka” project, which was recently launched on a local scale through “Waqfeyat El Maadi.”

This project has now transformed through the transformation of Waqfeyat Misr Foundation’s transformation about two months ago, broadening its services. “Waqf Al-Dekka” project aims to provide public seating in various locations, such as places where people wait for university buses, in front of banks, pension exchange headquarters, and other busy service areas, through the installation of benches “dekkak” for citizens’ comfort.

Dr. El Daly explained the mechanism for choosing suitable places for the “waqf,” using a map. Places that have been endowed are selected by others to benefit from setting up the benches. This approach helps revitalize the concept of “waqf,” wherein a deposit is allocated for the interest and maintenance of the bench, aligning with contemporary challenges while facilitating the addition of a hospitality space for the community members.

The provision of public seating addresses the issue of the scarcity of seats in the streets, especially for the elderly and other segments of society in crowded public areas.

She emphasized that providing benches through “Waqf Al-Dekka” also contributes to the preservation of green spaces since citizens sitting on grass in public places can cause damage. Dr. Al-Dali highlighted the prominent areas in Cairo Governorate currently targeted for the implementation of “Waqf Al-Dekka.”

The project also appeals to individuals and institutions interested in environmental issues, as it immortalizes the names of the owners of the “waqf.” Moreover, it provides opportunities for institutions and companies to promote their industrial, commercial, and service activities while supporting the environment and enhancing community participation in environmentally friendly initiatives.

As part of this effort, targeted areas are assessed to determine their condition, carry out maintenance work, and display signs and guiding materials.

“Wakf Eldekka” Project

The “Waqf Al-dekka” project is based on providing public seating in places such as universities bus stops, spots for citizens outside banks, pensions, and other service providers through the use of “Waqf Al-dekka.” This approach revitalizes the concept of endowment, wherein a deposit is allocated for the interest and maintenance of the bench.

“Waqfeyat Misr”

Founded in 2023, “Waqfeyat Misr” was formerly known as “Waqfeyat al Maadi,” established in May 2007 with the objective of developing Maadi and its surrounding areas by reviving the concept of “waqf” and providing sustainable solutions to the problems faced by the residents of Cairo Governorate, benefiting both the community and the region in the long run. “Waqfeyat Misr” offers opportunities and services that contribute to improving the standard of living in the community.
