Paulo Camargo, founder and designer of the Paulo Camargo Design brand, dreams in bring his own brand to embrace sustainability.
A topic that has been at his heart for long. “More than a trend, sustainability in the fashion sector is a necessity.
Can be a dichotomy for the business but I believe the first step is not taken by brands.
The most environmentally friendly attitude is to buy less and break with the exaggerated consumption trend that fuels fast fashion.” says the designer.
Within our current economic system there is no sustainability. Proof of this is the climate crisis itself and we have an economic model that depends on infinite growth on a planet of finite resources, capitalism is inherently unsustainable.
The designed Paulo Camargo is the mind behind the most varied models of bags, suitcases, backpacks, and accessories of the brand that today sells all over Brazil, Portugal and, also, to the international market.
Mixing colors, textures and designs, the Paulo Camargo Design brand has
models for all tastes, female, and male, from the most classic to the most daring. NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL: PIRARUCU LEATHER
“More than style, fashion can serve a purpose.” says Camargo. Considering the environmental concern, sustainable alternatives, such as pirarucu leather, is now in the plans to be integrate collection of Paulo Camargo Design brand.
In addition to coming from the reuse of a raw material that used to be discarded, the material has a differentiated texture, which is due to the size of the scales, which guarantees a unique aesthetic to the product.
The pirarucu leather is a sustainable alternative that uses raw material reused from the gastronomy industry and heats up the riverside economy, without neglecting the aesthetic value.
Fish leather can be converted into a special article, with a softness and texture suitable produce various accessories, such as shoes and bags.
The raw material has acquired such notoriety that it won the award for the most responsible and creative type of fabric or leather.
The tanning method is also of exclusively organic origin and thesustainability comes from the reuse of kilos of leather, enriching the economy of the riverside population and reducing the amount of discarded material.
Although the raw material is of animal origin, finding alternatives that harm the environment less and that are properly supervised is essential.” Says the designer- PIÑATEX OR CACTUS ECO-FRIENDLY SKIN
“But the most important for me is awareness and the search for more ecological alternatives.
We know the change of behaviors take decades to be implemented. I’m so intrigued by the Piñatex or Cactus Eco-Friendly Skin – one of the most exciting new trends is a durable vegan leather from cactus, and it could very well replace animal leather! Cactus Eco-Friendly Skin was
developed by two entrepreneurs in Mexico” says Paulo thar is awaiting the arrival of Cactus EcoFriendly Skin.
“Will be like Christmas even when I put my hands in that vegan leather fro cactus” remakes Paulo Adrian Lopez Velarde and Marte Cazarez came together to create Cactus Eco-Friendly Skin, a cruelty-free alternative to animal leather, also meets the specifications of several industries and can be used in fashion, leather goods, furniture, and automobiles sectors.

“Piñatex pineapple leather is already used today by fashion giants like Hugo Boss and Paul Smith.
The material is not 100% sustainable but a lot more ethical and environmentally friendly than conventional leather.” Comment Paulo Camargo In the books of Paulo Camargo Design is also the study of starting to work with Piñatex – a pioneer in leather alternatives made from cellulose fibers extracted from pineapple leaves.
The material is a synthetic leather made from pineapple waste, much more ethical than real leather made from animal skins.
The pineapple industry harvests about 27.5 million tons of pineapples and generates over 76 million tons of waste leaves each year globally.
Pineapple leather allows farmers to generate additional income by sorting and selling long leaves suitable for fiber production, instead of burning them or leaving them to rot.
Paulo remarks “Sustainability is journey and being a sustainable brand can mean a multitude of things.
I’m aware of the difficult path to be covered as sustainable but is an exciting adventure and venture with our planet. Plant-based leather alternatives are a growing market, with innovators turning to pineapples, olives, and coconuts to produce eco-friendly materials!
All these advancements should leave all the creatives excited about it”
