increases poultry exports and the volume of Egyptian investments in Juba
Ashraf Ghorab, the economic expert and vice president of the Arab Union for Social Development in the Arab League for Planning and Economic Development Affairs, praised the political leadership’s directives to increase cooperation between Egypt and Juba in the development of livestock, which came in the meeting of the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Mr. He explained that this cooperation will result in an increase in Egypt’s poultry exports, an increase in Egyptian animal investments in southern Sudan, and cooperation in scientific research and transfer of Egyptian expertise, which will benefit the national income and increase foreign exchange reserves.

Ghorab explained that South Sudan is characterized by large areas of fertile land that can be used as natural pastures for the development of livestock, in addition to this allowing Egyptian investors to invest in the field of livestock and fisheries in South Sudan to meet the needs of the population and then export the surplus to Egypt, praising Egypt’s offer.

By providing vaccines, serums and experts to travel to Southern Sudan to provide scientific support for the transfer of expertise to develop its livestock, within the framework of the political leadership’s efforts and directives to strengthen relations with African brothers to increase economic and political cooperation.

Ghorab continued, that cooperation with South Sudan increases Egypt’s poultry exports to it, after Egypt reached self-sufficiency in poultry and the existence of a surplus for export, especially after the World Animal Health Organization approved last year Egypt as one of the countries that adopt isolated poultry facilities and that 30 Egyptian facilities are free of bird flu After a 14-year hiatus, it continued to export poultry, as the volume of Egypt’s poultry exports from June 2020 until last January reached 909 tons of poultry and its derivatives, 32 thousand chicks, 3.6 million table eggs, and 119,000 hatching eggs.

Ghorab pointed out that Egypt is the first to export poultry to South Sudan instead of importing it from other countries, where Egyptian poultry enjoys high quality than others, in addition to the proximity to Juba, adding that Egypt was exporting poultry before 2006 with about 6.8 million dollars, according to official estimates. The volume of Egypt’s production reached 4 million chickens per day, with an average annual production of 1.4 billion chickens, in addition to 13 billion eggs, and it accommodates more than 2.5 million workers.

The economist continued, that the increase in poultry exports opens the way for investors to open new projects in the poultry industry and expand existing projects.

It also opens the way for young people to expand in establishing small and medium projects for poultry production, which is beneficial to providing tens of thousands of job opportunities and increasing production.

The increase in the national income will lead to an increase in the national income, explaining that the volume of poultry investments in Egypt is about 90 billion pounds, and breeders range from 50 to 60 thousand establishments, according to the estimates of the Poultry Producers Union, according to official estimates.
